This quote captures the craftsman's mindset (Read More Here) in action. It highlights a vital consideration when on the journey to excellence. The specific work you do is a lot less important than HOW you do whatever you do. Even if you are Elon Musk, the CEO and founder of Tesla Motors and SpaceX, who through cutting edge innovations has transformed major industries and simultaneously uplifted the human condition, there will still be mundane and seemingly unimportant tasks that must be completed. You have two options when these tasks arrive:
Option 2 is my preferred choice of modus operandi when completing tasks I would rather not. If I have to do the task, I might as well drop my resistance and complete it to the best of my abilities. Applying this approach not only improves my overall effectiveness, since I am reinforcing and developing the process of rapt attention and excellence, but also improves my peace of mind.
However, an important caveat is that this approach does NOT mean procrastinate or avoid high yeild but cognitively demanding tasks, such as studying, with incessant email checking or social media use (Read HERE why you should consider quitting social media). This approach is to be applied to small day to day taks that must be completed to function in the real world.
- Everything in life requires mundane tasks be completed. Drop you resistance to completing them and do them to the best of your abilities
If you can’t sustain it, it’s not worth it.
